Side effects registered for Venlafaxine
The FDA has forced safety related drug labelling changes regarding
Efexor.
The changes acknowledge the existence of severe discontinuation
problems which are both dose and time related and that the evidence of the
problems has been obtained from a retrospective survey of the clinical trials
database.
This would tend to indicate, in our opinion,
that venlafaxine should be considered as a second line
antidepressant for resistant depression.
Caution should be used in the elderly, those at risk of CVAs
or the hypertensive.
